Musician's Biographies
Getting to know....
...Fred Nimmer
Fred Nimmer’s family has been in the Ridgeland, SC, area for generations and they have been active in automobile dealerships, real
estate, and turf and sod landscaping. Many of the locals around the Island have noticed the big, white, sod landscaping trucks for
the past many years with the name NIMMER emblazoned on the cab.
While at Clemson University, Fred was in the Marching Band, Concert Orchestra, and played in and was the business manager for the
Dance Band. All of these experiences have given him a good background for his future music interests.
After earning his degree in degree in Mechanical Engineering, he served two years in the Air Force and married Joan Smith of Ridgeland.
They have four grown children, including a daughter who enjoys playing the piano and organ.
Business activities took up most of Fred’s time until he received a call in 1988 from the Hilton Head Jazz Society to join the big
band known as Big Band Live! From it was born the “Swing-Time Orchestra”, an eleven piece group that could fit into most of the clubs
and restaurants in the area. Thanks to Fred and the musicians he manages, the “big band sounds” are still alive and well in the Lowcountry.
